Title:  ‘Standard checks after total hip- or knee replacement: wasted effort or appropriate care?'

Principal investigator: Prof. Dr. R.W. Poolman

The HAKA study compares standard check-ups with on-demand check-ups following a total hip- or knee replacement surgery and consists of three work packages (WP).

The inclusion phase for the HAKA study is ongoing. Patients who are on the waiting list for a total hip or knee replacement or had surgery 10 years ago in one  of the participating centre may be eligible for participation.

WP1: A stepped wedge cluster randomized trial focusing on standard follow-up one year after surgery.

WP2: A three-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) focusing on standard follow-up 10 years after surgery.

WP3: A qualitative study focusing on whether discontinuing standard follow-ups is acceptable to patients and healthcare providers.
